IndieCity Privacy Policy
Version 1.0
Well first off our congratulations for being someone who is actually reading our IndieCity Privacy Policy. Suddenly all our efforts seem worthwhile :-)
Before this page goes all legal on us, let's first state our intentions. As you know we're aiming to become the one stop shop for all things indie gaming, to create a welcoming and accessible site that truly celebrates the diversity and creativity that come from indie games. In order to do this we do need to know a bit about you, so that we can then provide you with a more personalised experience. We realise the value of this data, and will always do our utmost to ensure its safety and appropriate use.
Changes and Amendments
IndieCity intends to be a continually evolving site, and as we add new features we may need to update this Privacy Policy from time to time. You will be notified of material changes by a posting as you sign in or otherwise access the service or by email to your current email address as registered with IndieCity.
Who is collecting the information?
The information that you provide is collected by IndieCity Limited, Regent Square House, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, CV32 4NL, UK.
Please note that IndieCity does not collect payment details directly, and does not (and indeed cannot) hold any information provided during the purchase process. We currently use WorldPay (WorldPay Privacy Policy) and PayPal (PayPal Privacy Policy), and may add more payment facilities over time. If so we will inform you of these changes as we update this policy.
Circumstances when we will collect information from you
On the website IndieCity.com:
- Information that is submitted via an online form
- Emails that you send to us using one of the contact email addresses shown on the site
- Your purchase details (product purchased, price paid, date and time, points used for discount, payment method used) will be recorded and stored by us so that a) we have the details in case of charge back or refund claims, and b) we can supply developers with accurate invoices and transaction statements.
Installing games:
- We use a peer to peer sharing method to download and install games. Your IP address is distributed with the parts of the product that you share. Other users do not have access to any other information about you, your hardware or software.
- IndieCity may choose to offer rewards to users who help to share lots of indie titles with fellow gamers. We therefore may keep a record of this information but will not share it with anyone else except when aggregated and made anonymous.
Playing games that use the IndieCity software libraries:
- If you are online your username is logged upon start up so that any subsequent unlocked achievements and leaderboard entries can be associated with your profile. If you were previously offline any leaderboard entries and unlocked achievements will have been cached and will then be transferred.
Circumstances when we will NOT collect information from you
We will not gather information that you do not wilfully provide, such as your computer hardware or software set up. The exception to this is where we may use third party web traffic tracking tools, (such as Google Analytics), but none of this information would ever be personal or identifiable.
What we do with your information
We use your personal information in numerous ways as we attempt to improve the overall site and your own personal experience as you interact with it and the games that you acquire from us. The main use cases for what we do with your information are:
- Your IP address is used to detect your country of residence and suggest the appropriate currency for you to use when purchasing games.
- Your date (or year) of birth may be recorded in order to know whether you are allowed to view Teen or Mature games.
- Your game purchase, page visiting and game ratings history may all be used by IndieCity to provide content recommendations.
- We will store your achievements and high scores.
- Your transactions will be recorded in case of any subsequent issues such as charge-backs and refund claims. Your anonymised sales information will also be supplied to the appropriate seller (developer) so that they can track their overall sales statistics.
- If you are a developer, your company name, logo, contact address and social media usernames are shown on your game pages and bio page.
- We may use your email address in the following situations:
- Operational issues (such as informing of planned site maintenance), password resets, and promotional emails if you have opted in for it (see Marking Communications section for more details on this).
What we do NOT do with your information
We will not sell, trade, or otherwise distribute any of your personal information, including your email address, to any third party. We want you to have a great time using IndieCity and its services, and come back to us again and again. So our relationship with you is therefore of paramount importance to us. We want you to be confident that your information is safe and that you are fully aware of when and how it is being used, and will do everything we can to ensure that you do not receive any unwanted correspondence.
How we protect your information
Your password is stored as a one-way-encrypted hash, and this hash is salted too. This means that if someone broke into our database, they wouldn't be able to read your password, and they'd find it very hard to guess it using a rainbow table attack. Your 'secret answer' is stored in this manner too. Login credentials are transferred to us exclusively via industry-standard SSL. Your personally-identifying information (PII) is backed-up in a private cloud-hosted environment with PCI DSS, Level 1 PCI DSS v2.0 and ISO 27001/2 certification/accreditation. All PII is expunged from backups that are used for development/diagnostic purposes.
Marketing communications
