Developer's Game Description
Hacknet began as a prototype made in a 48 hour game jam, and the response was so great that I made it into what you see today. The game was designed to be entierly internally consistant - the mail server is a working mail server, that parses files on it's filesystem. If you change a file, you change that email!
Developing and simulating a large network like this for the player to explore and investigate was as rewarding and interesting to develop and players have said it is to explore it.
